Ways of supporting the Museum

Become a Member

If your time is limited, why not consider supporting us by becoming a member?

Members help the Museum to survive.  Apart from the very welcome, but fairly modest, support from Richmond Town Council, we have no on-going financial support from any other outside agency, so your contribution will be very welcome.  Membership entitles you to attend, and vote at, the Annual General Meeting, thereby influencing the way the Museum is run. You will also receive members’ newsletters and will be able to visit the Museum with a friend free of charge as often as you wish.  Involvement in a variety of events throughout the year is another benefit.

Annual membership provides the above benefits for the year in which you subscribe.  We prefer the use of Bank Standing Order, so that membership automatically renews for as long as you wish.  We also encourage all members to complete a Gift Aid Declaration with their subscription, as this enables us to collect an additional sum from HMRC without cost to the member.

  • Annual membership - £25 per year
  • Life membership - £250 single payment

Become a Volunteer

If you would like to become more actively involved, why not consider joining our friendly team of volunteers?  Most of our volunteers are front-of-house Stewards, welcoming visitors to the Museum, answering queries and helping them to get the most out of their tour of the galleries.  During a half-day duty, generally once a week throughout the open season from April to October, you will meet people from all over the world, as well as local people seeking more knowledge of their heritage.  This often leads on to other ways of helping, especially if you have particular skills or an interest in the history of Richmond and the surrounding area.

We have volunteers who undertake all aspects of back-office work, whether it be simple maintenance tasks; cataloguing records; conserving artefacts; assisting with education visits; or even helping with the website.  Whatever your personal interest or experience, there is a good chance there is a role for you.

As a volunteer at Richmondshire Museum, you will be entitled to a pass which gives free or reduced-price admission to numerous other heritage attractions in the North of England.

Donations, Gift Aid, Legacies

The museum is a registered charity and can recover gift aid on donations from eligible individuals. We are heavily dependent on donations to help meet our annual running costs before we can even consider improvements or enhancements to the services we offer.

We are happy to discuss with potential donors / sponsors proposals which will support the museum while delivering benefits to the donor.

Donations can be made in cash at the museum, cheque by post or electronically via the button below. You do not need a PayPal account to use this service, just a valid debit or credit card.

Even better if you can complete the gift aid form and send it to us as well!
