Resources for Education and Research

When you are planning a historical or heritage theme, do contact us. We are able to offer advice at the planning stage. This is a free service and includes a tour of the Museum and a viewing of the loan boxes.

We provide first-hand active-learning sessions for class groups throughout the Galleries and Sets, where the children can handle artefacts, documents, photos and maps.  We can also offer extra Power-Point support for learning themes if required.

We are happy to research the archives to support heritage themes schools wish to pursue.  Recently we have provided support for themes such as Health & Hygiene and Crime & Punishment, as well as contributing to Special Heritage days in schools.

These artefact boxes are available on loan to schools; they offer themed artefacts, images and information for use in a classroom setting.  We can also offer themed materials, which can be varied to suit the school’s needs these can be discussed on an individual basis, jus get in touch via email.

The Museum seeks to provide services to the community, both through the education services we offer and with other activities.

We have provided a series of Memory Cases that include artefacts and reminiscence prints from our photo archives to be mainly used in Care Homes in the area, to promote discussion and reminiscence with residents and dementia sufferers.  These cases can also go out to Dementia cafe projects and warm spaces.

These boxes are available on loan, do contact us to support your project

The policy of the Museum is to make its collections as widely available as possible to researchers and interested parties. Our Wenham Study Centre holds a collection of archival records, ephemera and photographs relating to Richmond town and Richmondshire, which is accessible for research purposes by arrangement. We are embarking upon a project to digitise our catalogues and selected records to make them more widely accessible via the internet.
